The importance of good old soap and water…
Good hand hygiene is the “best way to prevent transmission of disease”. It’s vital for all adults to learn about how to wash effectively – and then teach it to young children, according to a recent report on the About Kids Health website.
Handwashing is the best way to protect yourself and your child from germs, advises the article, which focuses on the benefits provided specifically by washing with soap and water, as opposed to less effective hand gels.
“Cleaning with an alcohol-based hand sanitizer can prevent some infections, but not as many as handwashing with soap and warm water.”
Why the right handwashing technique is so important
The article provides good advice on when and how to wash hands well.
“It is the soap combined with the scrubbing action that helps loosen and remove germs from your skin. The running water washes them away. Antibacterial soap is not necessary. As long as you wash your hands properly, antibacterial soap does not work any better than regular soap.”
The centrepiece of the feature is an illustrated 10 step handwashing guide.

Teach hand washing to children – with a portable unit that goes anywhere they do!
Hand washing is the most important lesson a child can learn and acquiring it is an essential lifelong skill. A Kiddiwash Xtra or KiddiSynk portable hand washing sink can be positioned right next to the sand pit – helping to ensure that children dramatically reduce the risk of infection as they finish play.
The Kiddiwash range of warm water hand wash units are perfect for smaller hands – and are ideal where a portable solution is required.
Whether you require a larger wheeled unit such as the KiddiSynk, or the ultra portable Kiddiwash Xtra, you can ensure that all children in your care are able to wash their hands whether inside or out.
