Help teach children hand washing skills for life!
Taking place this year on the 15th October, Global Handwashing Day is “dedicated to increasing awareness and understanding about the importance of handwashing with soap as an effective and affordable way to prevent diseases and save lives.”
The first such hand washing celebration took place in 2008, with younger children playing a particularly important part in its success. Indeed, it’s reckoned that more than 120 million youngsters in over 70 countries!
The 2024 Global Handwashing Day theme has been revealed as “Why are clean hands still important?”
There are, says the event website article About Handwashing, three very important reasons why hand washing is so important – and helping children to get into the “habit” so vital.
“Handwashing with soap is an easy, effective, affordable do-it-yourself practice that prevents infections and saves lives.”
1) It’s easy: in short, effective hand washing at key times is something that all school communities and families can take part in.
2) It’s effective: when undertaken at the right times using recommended techniques, hand washing can help dramatically reduce the spread of all sorts of illnesses.
3) It’s affordable: again, hand washing with soap and clean water is very inexpensive.
How many other activities can achieve so much for such a negligible cost?
