“The most important lesson they can learn”
Teaching children to wash their hands properly at important times (such as before eating and after going to the toilet) is vitally important. Acquiring these skills – and the desire to keep washing – will help them to safeguard their health and those of others for a lifetime.
Which is why we love a recent article on the Teaching Expertise website which flags up 35 Helpful Hand Washing Activities.
Article author Brittney Hallmark has compiled a list of engaging activities that are all designed to educate about hand hygiene.
The Bread Experiment for example is really simple – but effective.
“Let students handle slices of bread with clean hands and dirty hands. Put the bread in bags and watch the changes as the bread gets older.”
Some of the links on the report don’t seem to be working at the time of writing – but there are nonetheless plenty of educational projects on show – from “how germs spread” to perhaps the most important of all, “when to wash”.
