Teach kids to wash their hands when you wash yours

The ideal time? When preparing food for your child!

Getting the family to form healthy habits such as hand washing before eating is vital – as is teaching them to wash properly, according to a recent report on the Food Safety News website.

“Proper handwashing is the best thing you can do to stop the spread of germs and avoid getting your little ones sick” states the authors of the release, the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA).

Deputy under secretary for food safety Mindy Brashears emphasised the importance of the activity.

“Washing hands is one of the most effective ways to prevent illness, including foodborne illness.”

The article quotes the rather alarming statistic that US consumers do not wash their hands in an appropriate fashion 97% of the time, which seemingly triggered USDA’s response.

A five step series of instructions regarding effective handwashing techniques has also been provided in the article.

Show them when preparing their food

An ideal time to demonstrate effective handwashing techniques could be given by parents and carers when they’re preparing lunch for themselves and the children in their care, says the report, which also contains useful lunch packing hygiene tips and links to key food safety guidance.

KiddiWash teaching soap and water hand washing

Teach hand washing to children – with a portable unit that can go anywhere they do!

Hand washing is the most important lesson a child can learn and acquiring it is an essential lifelong skill. A Kiddiwash Xtra or KiddiSynk portable hand washing sink can be positioned right next to the sand pit – helping to ensure that children dramatically reduce the risk of infection as they finish play.

The Kiddiwash range of warm water hand wash units are perfect for smaller hands – and are ideal where a portable solution is required.

Whether you require a larger wheeled unit such as the KiddiSynk, or the ultra portable Kiddiwash Xtra, you can ensure that all children in your care are able to wash their hands whether inside or out.
